The recession is driving the safety net of government benefits to a historic high, as one of every six dollars of Americans' income is now coming in the form of a federal or state check or voucher.

Unreal

Not surprising. Government loves a dependent population.

It didnt just get that way, but it did shoot up apparently.

More or less, I agree.
And, again, unreal. Lets add universal health care and drive that up a little more.

It took time but ever so slowly the people have become more dependent. Obama is intent on accelerating it before the people wake up and realize what freedom they have left is in peril. If they wake up. Or care. :stupid:

There is an old expression. There are liars, damn liars, and statisticians.

I wonder what they are counting as a "federal or state check or voucher"

If anything, thing, this shows how bad the economy is with people turning to government help. I suppose all you conservatives think they are single inner city black women with 3 or more kids.

No, I did not racially stereotype them at all.

No, I did not racially stereotype them at all.

Apparently you then buy into the rest of the stereotype.

I bet the majority on welfare and/or foodstamps now are (formerly) working families who are victims of the economy.

Apparently? How so?

You only denied the racial portion. You didn't say "I don't think that" but said "No, I did not racially stereotype them at all." To me, that said "I don't think they are black single mothers of 3+, but single mothers of 3+.

Ok.

Sure, I think some of the people getting this help are single black mothers of three. I also think some are single white mothers of three. And single Mexican mothers of three.
I am sure there are also some that just got laid off, some that have been laid off for a while, and some just plain worthless people that don't want to work.

My point is, I did not jump to any a conclusion about any particular group of people are getting the checks, I simply pointed out that one in six dollars in income these days is government help. That is scary and unsustainable.

I could have said, I guess you liberals think that it is only recently out of work people getting these checks, but we know better dont we? It would be an unfair assumption, and an insult to your intelligence :)

I tend to agree with HDRoberts saying about statisticians, but if this stat is true, we're in big trouble.

Maybe crazy old Bob Haller is right with his predictions of the sky falling...:)
