View Full Version : Question for the Religious Right

A few years ago in Ohio, a new law regulating the conduct of strippers and customers at strip clubs was passed. I'm not exactly sure what the law calls for, but I know the strip club industry is mad and they're attempting to get an issue put on the statewide ballot to overturn the law.

The law was conceived, lobbied for, and financed by a religious group in the Southern part of the state. My question is for those in the evangelical/fundamentalist/religious right camp.....Do you support these kind of laws? If so, why? What does it matter to you what occurs inside a strip club (and I'm not talking prostitution). Wouldn't the money that was spent to push this bill through the General Assembly would have been better spent on poverty?

My biggest beef with the religious right is that they desire to legislate their morality onto those who do not share the same beliefs.

I do not support these laws. The same as I do not support those that oppose lottery and gambling in Alabama (for example)

If one does not want to frequent these places, dont. It is pretty simple.
If you do not like strip clubs, if you think they are immoral, dont go.
If you are against lottery. Dont buy a ticket.

I agree. So while I'll never visit one of these clubs, I won't stop anyone else. Let God judge.

For full disclosure, the bill Skyhi is referring to is known as Senate Bill 16 which set statewide standards prohibiting touching of nude dancers and requiring strip clubs and adult bookstores to end most activity at midnight. The bill passed the House 73-24 in 2007.

The conservative Cincinnati-based "Citizens for Community Values" was the group that championed the new law.

Lol! Especially before 2007 when the stripper could "touch" you and you could stay past midnight! ;) :)

Touching? They might have a point, but it is almost impossible to enforce.
There are rules against it in most of these places anyway, does not stop it from happening.

The midnight issue, is silly.

:) :) The reason I brought the subject up is because I went to one this weekend. It's not really my thing, but its fun once in a blue moon. I was shocked at the amount of straight-female customers that were there....

Yeah, by that definition, it's illegal to give a girl a handshake or hug! I don't know how it's enforced.

From what I remember, they get in free, and possibly drink for free as well.

It has been several years since I went to one (just not as appealing to me anymore with the wife and kid), however when I was in college a few of us were regulars at one of the nicer places in that town. So much so that we actually had our own table.

Alot of straight female customers there as well.

And some of the things that happend....crazy.
Not that I ever was a part of any of that.

Like I said, it is not. No way to, unless you have Bruno the bouncer rough up every customer in the place.

And that would be bad for business, so I'm not so sure club owners would be strictly enforcing this. The mid-night shutdown though... Who is anyone to tell a private business when they have to close? That's the part that's ridiculous.

It's crazy. I just don't understand why this religious organization is so hung up on regulating strip clubs...I don't see what they gain from it.

Needless to say, I was happy to sign a petition when approached by a dancer in a grocery store parking lot...
