I guess I will never get it. Why not just run for king?

Sergio Garcia stood in the gymnasium and told the senior class at Fairfax High School not to worry: If he was elected, he wouldn't wear a dress.

"I will be wearing a suit," Garcia said, "but don't be fooled, deep down inside, I am a queen!"

A "queen" is a term in the gay community describing a feminine male. I'm assuming he was a very openly gay guy with feminine tendencies, so he ran for queen instead.

Yeah, I know what the term means, but I still do not understand the desire to run for Queen. If nothing else it takes the title away from a teenage girl (we know how many of them are about this), and gives it to a guy that seemingly wants just attention.

Could a straight guy run for queen? Or a straight girl run for king? If not, why?

Who knows. It's probably just for show. Most people don't take the whole Prom King/Queen thing seriously anyways. It's either a popularity contest, or the winner is voted in as a goof.

I laughed. :) I think prom queen should have to be a girl, but had this been my high school, I'm sure I would have voted for this dude.

Could have won at my school to. Never underestimate the malcontent/geek/outsider vote in making a mockery of an election to have fun.

Can you blame them? It's not like winning Prom King/Queen is some kind of notable accomplishment. Who cares.
