House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday she is open to introducing a second stimulus bill, but it's too early to determine the size of such a package and the timing on another major economic measure.

“We have to keep the door open to see how it goes,” Pelosi told reporters Tuesday following a House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee hearing on the economy.

But Pelosi said she wanted to give the $787 billion stimulus package passed last month time to work before she starts making promises on a second stimulus. Pelosi also accused the Washington media and cable news establishment of taking an overly critical approach toward the first stimulus — and expecting too much too soon.

“We hope it will be sooner rather than later that [the stimulus] catches fire in Washington, D.C. But we aren’t waiting,” she said.

“This is a fiscally sound package,” she said. “This is market-oriented.”

what planet is she on? Spend Spend Spend.....

they really should fund design and perhaps site purchase for nationwide MAG LEV trains, lots of road and infrastructure construction with all required approval like environmental ones.

that way stimulus 2 could be rolled out fast

light rail etc has really been scraped here. Its an expensive loser. If you want to flush money down the toilet worse than before then spend it on these pipe dream rail projects.

Funny how they work in other countries, more people use mass transit, less foreign oil being used.

There will be closer stops, they wanted to build one here, IMO it would of been great, but people were against it.

Here too. But thankfully its dead in this city. These things go through the city and connect them. They do NOT go everywhere and you still have to arrange more transportation turning a simple outing into an elaborate time consuming fiasco.

I don't know about the one in your area, but there was suppose to be stops from my area all the way to the Pittsburgh airport, with stops in between to popular areas.

I could of took the train from my area to Station square, then the subway to the stadiums or arena. Here they are building up the subway, putting it under the river to expand it.

Granted you might have to take the subway or bus, but with all that extra time from traffic jams, plus the money you save in parking everyday would be good.

My sister drives to Pittsburgh everyday for work, always a traffic jam, then she has to pay $10 a day for parking, the rail would be better IMO.

Exactly why light rail doesn't work here. Population density. But intercity high speed rail needs to be built.

But the new stimulus should be all about infrastructure. There is a LOT that needs done, rather or not the nation needs a stimulus. But might as well kill 2 birds with one stone. Water, waste water, and transportation in particular need cash to fix things the way they should be.

I don't understand the train debate....why not build electric cars or mass produce smart cars and let commuters keep their car...

I was thinking more of a NATIONAL MAG LEV high speed system, all on its own right of way, no grade crossing, no airborn pollution from planes.

one day a terrorist will take out a airliner with a SAM and ground the US airline industry

Its nice but its really only giving back some money that was already cut.

imagine all the stimulus going to roads bridges.........

there wouldnt be enough shovel ready projects, skilled workers, or heavy equiptement........

plus long term its not sustinable so companies wouldnt want to invest bucks in bulldozers that would end up parked in a few years

It may take some time, but if the stimulus is about creating jobs, shouldn't they be long term jobs? A sustained infrastructure program seems a great solution for long term jobs.

Giving money to infrastructure has to better than the other junk congress is spending the money on. And it will create more jobs than tax cuts.

The first "stimulus" was just passed. No need for a second one so soon.

Or is there someone they forgot to pay off.
