Because you're from L.A. (I think) and if I remember correctly, your a teacher, so many would assume you'd be a bleeding heart liberal... however, I have a hunch you're the polar opposite. A staunch republican!

I guess I do a good job at keeping my politics out of the non political sites since the few that guessed, guessed incorrectly. But did do a good job using inductive reasoning.
Being a CA resident, teacher, and a graduate from the pot capital of the state (Humboldt State), I too would assume that I am a lefty. But, that would not be true. I was once a hippie, but have since turned 180 (or did I?)
I guess one can say I am a liberal in the classical sense, which would make a a Conservative in today's terms. Limited government is what liberalism used to be about, but it has since been taken over the the left which now believes the government should be involved in just about every single issue.
I guess I would consider myself a right leaning libertarian.

Good hunch. But, I am actually registered Independent and am a Conservative (classic liberal) and libertarian (small "l") more so than I am affiliated with any particular party.

I disagree. Liberals are typically the proponents for change while the conservatives want things to stay the same.

I read it more as using ones own legs for themselves versus relying on others (i.e. the government) for assistant use of ones own legs.
Now that I realize the quote has to do with progressing forward, I would agree that it does apply more to liberals than others. But adding my 2 cents, sometimes it is better to stand and appreciate or take in what is in the current location, or even back up to see what was missed. Going forward does not always lead down a good road.

I suppose that's the beauty of quotes and sayings. Interpretation is up to the reader. I interpreted the analogy of "not walking forward" despite having "two perfectly good legs" as a sign that conservatives are stuck in their ways, stubborn and unwilling to make necessary progress.

Let me add...Even though I avoid keeping politics out of the tech sites I do give subtle hints every now and then about my philosophy. Using Rush (whose songs are full of libertarian thought) quotes in my sig are examples of said subtle hints.

We are both the same along the y-axis, but totally opposite along the x-axis.
Often our political rivalry and debates takes place along the a-axis differences. I feel most of the focus should be along the y-axis. It is the y-axis that determines how much the government is involved in anything.

Don't trust anyone in the government. It could be O'brian and he will send you to the dreaded Room 101.. Rather..go forth, seek out John Galt for the impending "strike" by society's real productive members....the "producers". You will find them at the Tea Parties and town hall meetings.
