Carl, its great to think of a hippie society where we don't need military powers to keep the peace, but in the history of man, war is a reality that never fails to rear its ugly head. So the notion of NATO being unnecessary is crazy. The primary power given to the Federal govt in our Constitution is for the central govt to protect its citizens. The Founding Fathers knew America would be pulled into wars. I think we should focus more on redefining necessary wars vs unnecessary wars driven by the military industrial complex.
