I agree, but if the media response is compared to when a Republican is in charge (ie. Bush), then yes he is getting a pass.
Obama has as much control and responsibility for this as Bush had for Katrina.

I agree with this.

I agree with Bob. Just what else was he supposed to do? The righties have been the ones saying he is not Jesus, but then you watch Fox News, they act like he need only go to the gulf and yell at the leak to make it stop. He is not a miracle worker.
And while you might blame the media, I personaly think Katrina was not Bush's fault either. I blame the people that decided to live below sea level in a hurricane zone.

Two things, both Bush and Obama could have done more, like what? Have competent people in charge of things. That's my biggest problem. Essentially the POTUS is the CEO of the USA. He isn't there to get on the ground and get dirty. He is there to make sure the best of the best are in charge when needed and the right people hold the right job. Bush's failure was having Brownie in charge of FEMA and Obama's failure is not having the Navy involved and running the show the day this rig exploded. Also, Obama is an envirnomentalist and he should have cleaned up the corruption in the MMS when he took office, he didn't, why? B/c BP is in his wallet....
Secondly, don't blame folks for living along the Gulf Coast, blame the folks that don't evacuate when a storm comes...it is 2 different circumstances.

Thats true fallout. The people that did not use common sense and get out are the ones to blame, not just people that live there.

A lot of the people who didn't get out were waiting for government to ride in on their white horse and rescue them. That's what dependence will get you.

I disagree to a certain extent. In the Katrina case, the ONLY responsibility the POTUS had was to send help in form of money and people to more or less help run basic services like equipment and the national guard. In the case of the spill, the ONLY thing the government can do is hire folks that STATE they know what they are doing and money. They have sent financial help, and they, to a certain extent sent man help....unfortunately, that man help, BP, insisted they knew how to plug the hole....and they didn't.
They are BOTH responsible....yes, but in the case of the spill, the current POTUS could do very little but trust the oil people that stated they knew how to handle this.....BP.

Bush denied immediate help from friendly foreign countries with specialized equipment that could have drastically reduced the damage and the suffering? People also forget that the reason help couldnt be brought in immediately was that people were shooting each other in the streets of NO and it was unsafe for FEMA and the first responders. I guess Bush should have realized the kind of trash that lives down there would prevent any aid from coming in from anything but the military.
