Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Saturday that it's time for the Republican Party to give up its "nostalgia" for the heyday of the Reagan era and look forward, even if it means stealing the winning strategy deployed by Democrats in the 2008 election...............

hey. cmon, lets not pick on the bush brother with the brain. its obvious (to me anyhow) that the republican party is in need of some sort of makeover to compensate for the last election.
whether you agree or not (and you probably don't), the dems ran a near perfect election. and it wouldn't hurt the republicans to develop a similar strategy if they want to win back congress and the white house!

Repubs can be nostalgic for Regan if I can be nostalgic for Clinton.

Jeb is playing straight into the hands of the progressives and effectively marginalizing more Repubs. Maybe he'll be the next to switch parties.
Given, I do agree that the party needs a new image after Bush's tenure.

giving up our core beliefs does not make us anything other then the problem instead of the answer.

The right wingers need to find someone who can lead them like Barack Obama does for the Dems. They have almost 8 years to do it too!

did i say anything about totally giving up your beliefs? mad, i respect the fact you have a deep respect and admiration for regan and those republicans of similar ilk.
as i respect the fact, you have a strong belief system you do not wish to vacate. at least, no one would question you where you stood on politics.
here's my problem. from where i sit, i see the republican party divided by the religious right, dubya worshiping zealots and those whose beliefs are more centered on tradition.
i have stated many times before that if the republicans could reclaim their party from the religious crazies, i would probably switch parties in a heartbeat. i haven't been crazy with the direction of the democratic party but i'm less than enthused about where the gop is headed.
i do know that the dems found a platform that got them control of congress and the white house. maybe, it was more about the majority of americans being totally disenfranchised after 8 years of bush. in any event it worked.
i can't speak for jeb, although he was our governor for 8 years. but it sounds to me like he's suggesting the republican party do the same before the mid-term elections in 2 years.
i guess my question is this: do you want to stick to your guns (so to speak) even if it potentially costs you ballots?
my 25 cents!

Speaking of Repubs and conservatism, kind of ironic how Nixon, Ford, and both Bushes actually expanded govt and at the same time shrunk their parties. Its not hard to understand that a 3rd Bush would completely vaporize what's left of the GOP.

That article is the Washington Times' interpretation of what Jebb said. From what I understand from those that where actually there its miss leading as hell.. Its out of context. Am I surprised????
I hear he spent 99% of the time speaking on recapturing the conservative movement lead as Reagan did..

No thanks. Id like to have a leader that stands for something other than spending and selling this country off.
