I can remember when people said who would be stupid enough to pay for bottle water.

People were stupid enough to vote for Bush twice....
For that matter, one could say they were stupid enough to vote for Obama once. But saying something like that would be pretty ignorant in and of itself.

Beats me, and there is the fact that most tap water is purified to a level that bottled does not approach

I take bottled water to work since our store doesn't have a water fountain, but I fill the bottles with water from the faucet.
