President Barack Obama predicted that professed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be convicted, as Attorney General Eric Holder defended putting him through the U.S. civilian legal system.
In one of a series of TV interviews during his trip to Asia, Obama said those offended by the legal privileges given to Muhammed by virtue of getting a civilian trial rather than a military tribunal won't find it "offensive at all when he's convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him."

I will, he shouldnt be in civilian court anyway.

There are a few here that would care too. They are against the death penalty.

This stinks of a publicity stunt.

He should be hanged until dead in Central Park.

If he would of been treated as a POW, since afterall its a war on terrorism, and afforded normal military treatment.

NONE of this BS would be necessary today..

Ideally sentced to life in prison, so he isnt a martyr.

No use hurring his trip to the virgins

No response necessary there Bob....

If you read my past posts from the beginning of the year when your Messiah was inaugurated, you would know I am anti-torture.

civil proceedings are needed to help prove to the world we have realized the error of our ways and have cleaned up our act......

Frankly so no president ever tortures again i hope the suspects are found not guilty because they were tortured.

give them a one way ticket back to their home countries and move on.

no prisoner is worth ruining the reputation of our country, and generating new terrorists all at once.

I heard the argument that we're better off treating him as a criminal and not a POW because as a POW, he'd be viewed by his sympathizers as a soldier. Any thoughts on this?

Good luck finding an impartial jury for this one!

you may find sympathy for gross miss treatment of prisoners, and at minimum all evidence aquired thru torture should be tossed out.

if he had been treated as a POW, he wouldnt of been tortured at all. military code of conduct prohibits it.

If I'm on the jury, I could care less what evidence is presented. I'm voting guilty no matter what. I'm guessing most people feel the same.

I'd like to see KSM get released in NYC, particularly in the South Bronx or East Harlem areas and let the people of New York tear this POS apart themselves.

Why do you say that? He'll surely be convicted and will likely receive the death penalty. Why would you expect such a large backlash?

I'd love that senario. It would be the end of OBAMA for sure. Total incompetence splapping the citizens in the face. Id love to see how the networks would defend him. And Hillary? She would quit on the spot and start a campaign to impeach him.

What bob is trying to say is that they're alleged criminals accused of violating at least one federal statute.

And? They deserve a civilian trial in New York City? Or anywhere in this country for that matter?

hey wouldnt it save cops a lot of time and effort.

when a crime is commited just round up all suspects, hold them indefinetely, dont even give them the info on why they are being detaineed, and dont let them have legal counsel............

then torture them and use the torture info against them......

sounds more like the stalinist gulags, and the USSR ones

really all the suspects should be released because proper procedures were intentially not followed

that was a another bush cheney screw up

bush cheney should be in prison for illegal acts while in power

If you violated a federal statute and were arrested overseas, you'd be brought to trial in the USA. Just playing the devil's advocate....

Holder announced Friday that five accused Sept. 11 conspirators currently held at the U.S. military base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, will be transferred to federal court in Manhattan to face trial—just blocks from the site of the former World Trade Center.

Five other suspects, Holder said, will be sent to face justice before military commissions in the United States, though a location for those commissions has not yet been determined.

Then what about these other five guys? Why are they not getting the same types of trials.

I will admit I am far more ignorant of the justice system than you, but this still smells like a publicity stunt. One that they may wish they had not tried when all is said and done.

I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to criminal law too.....

I have no idea why they're using military tribunals for some, but civilian courts for others. I'd guess the criminal charges are different, but I don't know for sure.

I can see arguments for both sides of the issue. If the govt. chooses to use the civilian courts, I don't really see a big problem with it, though.

OBL is on the FBIs most wanted list because he has violated federal statutes. Since the FBI is involved in the search, I think it would make sense to try him in civilian court if he's even caught.
