Suicides in the Army are expected to reach a new high this year, with 140 suspected cases among active-duty soldiers so far this year, Army officials said Tuesday.
This will be the fifth year in a row that grim statistic rose despite an aggressive military campaign to tackle the mental health stigma in the Army. This year's number already matches that for all of 2008. There were 115 suicides in 2007 and 102 in 2006.
Sad....

Solution: get the heck out of the middle east, period.

You would think the Army would provide better "follow up service" for these heroes when they get back from war.

One would think. This is something that needs to be taken care of.

The cases being reported are soldiers on "active duty". Lord only knows the amount at home committing suicide.

they dont track suicides after service is over, they dont care and dont want to know.
of course multiple tours of duty only make these problems worse.
solution is simple, move to US BASED energy, prohibit importing any crude from mid east and chavez.
then we dont need the mid east:)

Actually Bob, they do.
As Veterans, they are tracked by the VA.
Please refrain about talking about Veterans, since you have no clue what that status entails.

so if the data is tracked, how come good or bad it hasnt been in the news?
va is so underfunded, if walter reed hospital was a pest hole how well is data tracked? numbers many dont want publicized...............

One of the first questions a Funeral Home asks, is if the deceased is a Veteran. Because there are benefits (some cash) attached. So yes, Veterans Deaths are recorded and tracked.
Why hasn't it been in the news? Probably because it's not newsworthy, as Veterans Deaths have been high the last several years due to the die-off of the WWII Vets (several of which funerals I went to this past year, as my church has WWII Vets among our older members).
btw, Walter Reed is ran by the Army, not the VA. But when has fact checking been one of your best efforts.

Maybe They realize just what is in charge of the country now. This is the party that often campaigns to throw out votes from our heroes/warriors overseas.

Those poor soldiers are being sent to Afghanistan with absolutely no plan to win by a puppet in chief whose only goal is political cover. It will cost many of them their lives.

talking about our former president again?:026:
i can remember when i went back on active duty with the navy in the early 80's. many sailors were taking their lives because military pay wasn't high enough to pay for civilian housing. so the navy added a variable housing allowance, in addition, to the allowance authorized depending on rank.
i can also remember in the late 70's when i was still in the army that suicides were high in germany.

Bush mishandled many parts of afghanistan for sure, but Obama is doing the same. It is time to sh*t or get off the pot.

The only Bush did that screwed up Afg was handing it off to NATO.
NATO is joke unless we are on the ground with them, holding their hands, and telling them what to do...

you're talking bush sr, correct?
my comment to vurb was about his beloved dubya.
in any event, todd, i'd say obama hasn't done a good job of trying to get the situation under control. but that doesn't mean he is soley to blame for the mess we have over there.
if hillary had only gotten the dem nomination and won, i think our situation over there would be much better than it is now.
and, no, i don't think things would be any better if mccain had been elected.
