I like craigslist. I've used to to buy and sell things.....I only buy from people who live in my neighborhood (~5 miles) and I would never use it to meet anybody (notwithstanding the fact I'm married :)).
I bought my gas dryer from somebody on craigslist for $50 and its worked like a charm for years.

Yep, I have bought several things on craigslist. Never a problem. Just stay out of the personals and erotic services sections.

I tried to sell a car on Craigslist and was bombarded with a bunch of phoney offers. A lot of scams out there and since it's completely unregulated, there's no stopping the thief's. With that said, if your smart and can sift out the fakes, it's a good alternative to advertising in the local paper I supose.

Speaking of craigslist, does anybody know what their business model is? It's free to buy and sell and they don't have advertisements on the page.

Very true. It's not for the naive.

The original concept was to simulate the classified sections of a newspaper for free and over the years, they've stayed true by not joining the penny swapping game of internet ads.

Yeah, the guy who invented the site is sitting on a goldmine. It's free to buy, sell, and use his service, yet he doesn't collect a dime. It's a non-profit business.
