The End of the Global War on Terror
Updated 4:58 p.m. 3/24/09
By Al Kamen
The end of the Global War on Terror -- or at least the use of that phrase -- has been codified at the Pentagon. Reports that the phrase was being retired have been circulating for some time amongst senior administration officials, and this morning speechwriters and other staff were notified via this e-mail to use "Overseas Contingency Operation" instead.

its all part of the Obama smoke and mirrors "change". Yes we can!!!!!!! (change the wording to hide it):free-happy-smileys-

Ridiculous. Call it what it is. It is all about the liberal 'feelings are hurt, no one loses' mantra.

Obama is on TV right now calling for the defeat of Al Queada and the Taliban. renaming this is absurd.

I agree, what is the point of renaming it? It is what it is, and changing what we call it will not change that fact

The point is to trick his liberal base into supporting more war when he promised them that he would end it.

Barack is just trying to allow people to not hate us. He'll still go after them.

At least the world will not hate the USA anymore.

Keep believing that. Like I said, just changing how you describe what we are doing does not change what it is.

Allow them to not hate us? Allow?? Do I even need to explain how utterly ridiculous that statement is?

Tell me Carl. What people that did not like us has he actually made allies?

Kind of like Chamberlain making friends with Hitler, huh?

you can always wave the stick, but it is best to do so knowing you have tried peaceful measures first.

So the global biggest giver of overseas aid is not peacful first? The first to respond to any crisis on the globe is not peacful first? Come on carl. What we do (after the fact) is what we do. Why not call it that? It changes nothing if we do not.

Again, I asked earlier, who that hated us have we made allies since Obama? You seemed to imply that we had. I may have misunderstood your intent.

Wasn't it conservative hero O'Reilly that just declared Bush won the War on Terror? So what's it matter?

I care about preventing future attacks, not semantics.

Just because O'reily might have said something is over does not mean every conservative agrees.

I agree though that it is not a HUGE deal, which begs the question, why do it? Why change it? What was the point?

O'Reilly is no conservative and he's certainly no conservative hero. I can't even watch him. The way he constantly interrupts people makes me want to strangle him.
