Probably trying to hide the teleprompter from the TV audience. I just wonder when the press will be told they are not allowed to show the robot reading from a script. I guess thats why he can't answer any questions.

Maybe research should be done on the teleprompter situation. This is a thorn in Obamas side when it comes to "great" speeches. Do not get me wrong, Obama is far and away a better pure speaker than Bush. No doubt about it. He simply struggles when it is not out for him to see on the prompter. His past shows that.

Maybe Bush butchered the English language but at least they where his own words. Obama needs phonetics to pronounce words like Orion. Orean is not a constellation nor a A Special Message from Barack Obama's Teleprompter

I'm certainly not an Obama-robot-cheerleader, but this argument is pretty weak.......

Every modern president has used a speechwriter and teleprompter when giving speeches. When he's off the prompter, he's been fine. He was fine in the debates and his press conferences....

As far as ummms, uhs, and aggs go: It shows he's actually THINKING about the question and formulating a well-reasoned, rationale answer. Would it be more "proper" to think in silence for a few seconds? Sure. But everybody has bad habits...

You're talking about phonetics? You called a mosque a "mosk" in another thread. Pot meet kettle.

No I make fun of a president that cannot think for himself. A president that campaigns on fiscal responsibility and writing a bail out plan and then turns it over for Congress to write and fill with Pork. Then the lying sack of crap signs it. I make fun of a president that campaigns against lobbyists and then surrounds himself with them and tax cheats. - Obama

It applies to both, but I think more so to Bush. Obama read a prepared statement for 10 minutes, then took 50 minutes of questions. Bush would just read off the prompter for 20 minutes, then leave without taking questions at all much of the time.

Presidents for a long time have had prepared speeches. Teddy Roosevelt was famously saved by the fact he had a 50 PAGE speech in his pocket, along with an eyeglass case in his pocket when he was shot.

Of that there is no doubt. All presidents have used prepared speaches. I think everyone is jumping on the prompter thing simply because they are everywhere and so visible. It takes a little bit of the shine off of one who is hyped to be a great speaker. With the words floating in front of me, I think I could deliver a great speech:)

That said, he IS a better pure speaker than Bush IMO, and I have stated that before.

That, and not everyone "loves" him. All past presidents have had their followers and they have all had those that did not really care for them. It is only natural for a newly elected leader to have a large number of supporters, especially at first (and I am not saying this will not last for him)

I agree but Obama followers have taken it to new heights. He's like a new religion. Blind faith, so to speak.
