WASHINGTON - Republican leaders urged President Obama to send 40,000 more troops to Afghanistan immediately Tuesday, while Democrats said they'll back whatever decision Obama makes.
The Taliban also chimed in and dared the U.S. to meet the surge request of Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan. "You should know that we have a lot of patience and we are prepared for a long fight," the Taliban said in e-mails to Western reporters.

I think the general is right he needs more troops, but, winning in Afghanistan has been a hard nut to crack historically.
Obama was so foolish to take up a cause like Afghanistan in the election and not Iraq as it looked like it was getting better a good deal before Nov. 08'.

geez who attacked the US? saddam or bin laden?
if the resources spent on saddam had all been devoted to bin laden, afghanistan war would be over by now

If you are going to stay then you need to listen to the General. But the facts of life are it will take 20 years to win that war with 250,000 troops and the American Public will NEVER tolerate it. And NO ONE has ever won there.

I agree. Either stay, listen to your men on the ground and give them what they need to do the job, or come home. To do it half assed is pointless.

What we don't agree on is Obama. He is just avoiding, delaying and even running from the issue. Do something!!!!!!!!!! undermanned military operations only result in American deaths!

And NO ONE has ever won there. You will recall for about 3 + year now I said that Afghanistan was not winnable because we don't have the stomach to win.. ( The lefties over at the Pit went spastic) Primarily because of the land locked terrain but also because of the fractured tribal nature of the country..We are not going to commit 2 million troops to that ****hole to win.. There is nothing or rather no one to win over there..Either make it completely uninhabitable like a sheet of glass ( which is not a real option) or get out and let the war lords and tribal chiefs kill each other.
Obama changed generals to McChrystal because he is a special ops type expert. He is a Rumsfeld formula advocate. His specialty is small specialized infil and exfil teams and large on predator and remote bombing.
Obama fully expected McChrystal to come back with a report saying he didn't need additional troops and matter of fact pull some out and run a remote stealth war.
That was "The" Obama fantasy "strategy" but needed someone like McChrystal to plan and legitimize it.
Boy he was surprised and flummoxed when McChrystal came back looking for 40K more troops on top of the 20K already Obama sent at McChrystal request. Obama thought he was bribing the General with the 20K troops to come back with a pull back strategy and make himself look like a military genius with him say "shucks, this ain't so hard. How come Bush couldn't do it".
Now Obama is paralyzed by indecisiveness from the lack of real world experience in decision making. While our forward fire-bases are being over run and we are losing our soldiers in record numbers. The deer and the head light have met. Actually.. reality has met fantasy campaign pandering rhetoric..
If you notice...everything Obama takes credit for he never had anything to with. He is running a no-touch presidency. Its called plausible deny-ability if it fails. That's why he is still blaming our past on his current failures and setting up for the soft landing with his apology tours. The Obama apologists should at least seen that with the dog.

I'm fed up with fighting wars in a politically correct manner. Go in to win or don't go in at all. I'm especially fed up with mosques that are used as bases for attack. Once soldiers pour out of a mosque and start attacking, the mosque should be considered part of the battlefield. Flatten it.

yeah war is cruel, innocents die.
fighting a clean war probably results in more suffering and deaths than the old style, go in wipe them out.
level everything suspect, in iraqs case we could of been out fast, once we totally leveled baghdad, after driving the iraquis towards food water and shelter drop locations.
your city will cease to exist on this day LEAVE NOW.
the loser needs to KNOW they lost, just like japan knew after 2 nukes.
this pussy footing around accomplishes nothing.
militarys policy is overwhelming force

we're fighting 2 different wars we aren't winning. so either get the job done or get the hell home. what we are creating are more veterans who will suffer ptsd for the rest of their life and clog the already over clogged va system.
that might sound harsh but when we send all of these troops into harms way, nobody stops and thinks what happens to them when they come home. maybe, we should fix the va before we continue to stress a weak link.

I loves ya Icey.. The only ones to fix the VA are the veterans. Possibly a "Bonus Army" style march like in 1932. No politician ever will on their own...Just a little grandstanding here and there for publicity and pandering votes.

sounds like you missed the disabled veterans virtual march on washington dc a few weeks ago. had a nice turnout but could have been better. maybe, if more politicos actually served time in the military, they might have a better understanding of the problems the va and veterans face on a daily basis.
rant over.
