About 60,000 senior citizens have quit AARP since July 1 due to the group's support for a health care overhaul, a spokesman for the organization said Monday.
The membership loss suggests dissatisfaction on the part of AARP members at a time when many senior citizens are concerned about proposed cuts to Medicare providers to help pay for making health care available for all. But spokesman Drew Nannis said it wasn't unusual for the powerful, 40 million-strong senior citizens' lobby to shed members in droves when it's advocating on a controversial issue.

What gets me is that the president doesnt even have A PLAN yet. And he quotes these organization as supporting it. Frankly I think that is his strategy that he will adopt something and force a vote on it before anyone can read it or before the public can read it as he has done in the past in direct conflict with his campaign promises.

I never joined. Refused to.. I always considered them a Socialist group with a for profit motive.
So last week they sent me another solicitation begging me to join. With a "card" included. You guys know froggers's avatar over at CA with the little blond headed boy and his middle finger. I found it on the internet and made a high res copy. Tore up the card and put photo of little boy, torn card and blank application into the return postage guaranteed envelope and sent it back to ARRP.:gueller:

Medicare that my mother paid for 33 years and never used except for a tooth and $30 a year check ups and I picked up the $3800,00 yr Medigap supplement. Never had nor seen medicaid. Oh.. Wait... My ex-wife's loser niece got pregnant by her live-in boy friend at 17 and I think she had medicaid and welfare. Last I heard she had a few more but felt it was too expensive to get married and give up the enabling welfare.
Whats your point?

Point is simple. These same old people who are complaining about more "socialized medecine" Have no problem using medicare, or other health benefits availible to them, including the new drug plan introduced by the gop.

Since you pay taxes every time you buy a gallon of gas, you have no problem using the roads because you helped pay for them. Would you complain about the roads if your use of them was rationed? If you had to wait until they allowed you to use them? If they decided you can't use a particular road at all because too many people are waiting to use it already?

You lost me.. I just told you that you pay for the medicare policy every month like a insurance premium. I pay $101.00 every month. I never use it because for regular oil changes and check-ups its more a PITA and not all doctors take it. I like my Doc like I like my barber. He doesn't take medicare probably for the same reasons most auto dealers will never take cash for clunkers again. Their profit is tied up in a pile of metal they can do anything with except hold their hands on their ass waiting to get paid.
The problem with medicare is the government mismanages it like everything else it touches.
I like Froggers point. To add to it. So your saying that if you have collision insurance on your car you can't use it until you paid in enough to fix the car if you wreck it?
THe problem with Medicare as with any other subsidized government program, be it Amtrak or Post Office or SS they all go broke. Kaput. Bankrupt.
