While i do not share vurbs total sentiment, I do think that the F-22 is a vital weapon that we need. It is the most advanced plane in the world. We need it.

Really we need to spend 44k per hour of flying? That's not including the cost to buy the plane. The new jsf program is cheaper and much more bang for the buck. Gates and most of the army brass support and agree with obamas decesion

I have lived my entire life with those jets from Oceana and TAC at Langley AFB flying over my head. It is the sound of freedom and it gives the safest feeling in the world seeing them over your head everyday.. If you own the sky then you own any war. Lose that and your country is defenseless. I suppose now we are to scrounge around for spare parts and keep our old junk in the air, turn the state of the art air force into the Mexican auto industry thanks to the idiot Black communist. But hey that makes more money for overpriced ham and cheese!

The F-35 is a great plane, no doubt about that. It can fill many roles, and will match almost any fighter on the planet. One notable exception however (if you go by the specs) is the F-22.
Personally, I think both are needed. The 22 for air superiority, the 35 as a more multi purpose fighter.
Retire the older jets as we get them replaced to save money.
Not to mention the F-22 is a jet that will be exclusive, for the time being, to the US. The F-35 will be available to many other nations.

Now you know why I'm barely posting anymore. The board has become full of righty extremists, and every other opinion is simply shouted down as communist of facist. Honesly, Vurb, you claim not to be racist, but inject race into this? I'm beginning to wonder if MSmith is the only reasonable righty on here.
You people whine endlessly about excessive government spending, but then he stops billions in spending that will serve no purpose but to strengthen the airforce, which can already beat any other airforce 10 times over, and you cry foul. I'll take universal health care over more (we already have 187 of them) F-22s any day.

That is a valid point.

Thanks.
My view is a formidable defense force is as important as any other program we can fund. We have that to be sure, but we also have a viable (if not already expensive) healthcare industry. Should something be done to "reform" healthcare? I am open to that, I just think what is on the table is not the answer.

The problem with the F-22 is the cost/benefit ratio.
For the cost to purchase and maintain a few F-22's, we can get many more F-35's.

That is true, but they are two different types of planes, with two different roles.
I see them as a compliment to each other.

I know exactly what you mean, I love it when the A-10s buzz by our corporate building and rattle the windows. Makes you stop for a second and realize that we own the air.

Would it make a difference if he was white?

Your right Vurbano you obviously no more about National Defense then Gates and his generals. Whom have recomended to Obama to veto the bill if it includes more funding for the F-22..
The F-22 is way more expensive then its worth. Hell it has not even been tested in combat! None are in Iraq, none are in Afghanastain. With the current fleet of F22s and the upcoming F35s and the older planes we own the skies without any doubt. I mean how much do we have to own them by? I mean we have enough nukes to destroy the world a few times over. I think once would be enough. We have enough jets to maintain Air Supremacy against any nation and even groups of nations. And Once we gain it, the enemy cant rebuild.
The JSF F35 is a multipurpose fighter that can be matched against ANY fighter in the world and win. But its not just the best plane for the tool its the best pilots in the world to man them. Id rather instead of spending 44k an Hour to fly the F-22 we get a few more pilots and pay them enough money to stay on board and not want to leave to the private sector where they can make 130k+ flying commercial planes.
Lets spend that money on the best pilots money can buy. Instead of wasteing it on a fighter thats not needed to get the job done.

Then he would be a white Communist. Got a problem with that?:augentreher:
I think you and others are missing something. Obama has made no secret that if he got into power he would right the past "wrongs" for blacks. By selecting racially sympathetic judges,(SOTOMAYOR) even changing the constitution to achieve social equality, go read his books and listen to his interviews. It is exactly what he is doing. I am in no way being any more of a racist than he is. But yet the self righteous, pompous &*^ that you are wants to criticize ME for saying the word "Black" and all of the blacks and commies on this board will chime in behind you "oh that racist vurby" as has already begun.
Yes it would!:026:
So YES it is significant that he is BLACK unless you live with your head in the sand. And those that root you on are just as blind as you are as to what Obama is doing

You could have just said "communist" (which is still crazy, but at least appears politically motivated and not racially motivated).

I agree. Communist would get the point across just as well.
To each his own though.

Honestly, who cares about a word? How is it that a word can hurt someone?
Political correctness was started by the right wing and the left supports it now more than the right.
Something can only threaten you if you allow yourself to be threatened by it, not because society says so. But then again....is everyone sheep?

Back to topic....
Lockheed-Martin builds the F-22. We've spent $65 billion dollars on them and it's NEVER even fired a single shot in Iraq or Afghanistan, despite us being in the midst of 2 wars!
Seems like a no brainier to me. Talk about pork fat. Geesh!
