No the Christian right still is a powerful political and cultural force in America. They may not currently have the same influence in government as they did during the past eight years but they're still there.

I don't think traditional values are gone, just yet, but they are rapidly changing. I read somewhere we are living in exponential times, meaning things are happening at a rate never before seen. Values have changed a lot over my lifetime...and I don't like some of them.

Only on the left.. Don't be fooled by the recent election. We are still in the majority.. This is only temporary driven by the media whom will soon be out of business. They operate on the misguided premise "You can fool most the people all the time, and those are the ones you want to concentrate on".
Like Lincoln said;"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time." ...

I do not think your correct. Some are for them yet. I think it is the beginning of the downfall of this country when traditional values are no longer the bedrock of the foundation of this nation. It is what the USA was founded on.

I use to get this one religious faction knocking on my door once a month, they would bring their kid so people wouldn't get mad.
Finally I had enough, I told them I don't believe in god and don't ever come back again.
I haven't seen them since.

For me, if I want something, I do not mind going to get it myself. I do not need someone to convince me that the Sham wow is the greatest product ever, and I do not need the JW trying to pull me in either. If I am interested, I will come to you, otherwise remember that there is a Castle Law in mississippi, and I may feel threatened:)

Honesty, reverence, hope, thrift, humility, charity, sincerity, moderation, hard work, courage, personal responsibility, and gratitude. The more of these you adopt or practice the more "traditional" your likely to be. I relearned most of these in AA 20 years ago after I forgot for years what my parents taught me..

Oh, I am not saying it is completely gone, I am simply saying that we have alot of, "look at me", "give it to me", "I didnt do it", "its not my fault", "I dont feel like working today" folks around. It is the same everywhere I go.
Most of my neighbors are good, decent people too, it is the odd stranger I meet that lacks these qualities, and it is more prevelant in the younger crowd.

Ironically "we" are the least qualified to decide our "character" for ourselves. (don't mean God either, I'm a atheist) All you can do is do your very best to live up to those values when no one is watching and you will do fine by others.

Not sure what part of MS you're in, but I find in Louisiana that since Katrina, Rita, Gustav, and Ike (yes Ike struck Texas but flooded the hell out of south LA) we've seen a natural rise in traditional values, people now realize the govt (FEMA) isn't going to save them. We have to work together to get things done. I am not including the welfare city of New Orleans in my analysis.

I think talking heads in the media like to tell us that these traditional values are eroding, but when I'm out in the world, I just don't see it. Of course there's bad apples in every bunch, but for the most part, the people I see are friendly, hard-working and honest.

I am in the southeastern part. Like I said, it is not completely gone, but it is getting there, and in the younger people moreso than the older.
I am not sure how many different people you guys interact with on a daily basis, but in my job, I see all kinds, and regularly. We have trucks coming in constantly, people calling every minute (and I talk to the bulk of them), the employees, and people wanting a job each and every day. I see plenty of good people, plenty of them. However, you get those that really just do not care. I had one come in the other day to fill out an application, and he told me that he really did not want to get hired, he just needed to look like he was looking for a job (hey, at least he had honesty down).
I will constantly get asked by an employee if they can get extra hours, and when you tell them you have something for them to do after hours, they suddenly come up with excuses why they cant, each and every time. Then they complain because they dont have have money to make a car note payment (and they want to borrow that money).
Then you have the employee that has 6-7 kids by 6-7 different women, and he gets mad because you are taking child support out (like I have a choice)
Maybe I am a little jaded because I employ some of the lower class (for lack of a better word) workers. I just see it.

It is GREAT!
Seriously, I hate to make it sound all bad, because there are some really great people here.
My parents actually helped a man and woman that had spent the winter on the Alabama beaches a few weeks ago. They were coming through town and got into an accident. Well they were pulling a camper and when the wrecker got there to tow the truck, they had no way to get the camper to a safe place. So my mom called her brother (who has a fifth wheel hookup) on his truck to come hook up to it. They then called me, and I got up with the game warden to help get them into the state campgrounds after hours so that they could setup for the week while their truck was being repaired at our local dealership.
They took them out to eat, went and got a new battery for the camper so they could let the landing gear up and down, and even took them to church over the next day or so.
Well the couple came by here the day before the truck was repaired to say thanks and take a tour of the plant, and he said, "Son, your parents are angels. You would not have wanted this to happen in our neighborhood, you would still be sitting on the side of the road. And here we were thinking Southern hospitality was something you only see in the movies." I think they were from Iowa. Very nice couple.
Of course I am using my parents as an example, but there are others just like that, here and everywhere.
That said, I still hold my opinion on the erosion of traditional values, again, more among the younger set.

Many people dont make it out TNX. I will never know if my life's experiences led me into the dark or whether it was the strengths I learned from those experiences that helped lead me out. However, I accept it all as a necessary passage.
Just as had I not seen the Evils of Communism (Socialism) I might never have truly appreciate the beauty of a Free America.
As had I not experienced the demons of depravity I might not have appreciated the serenity of sobriety.
