Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin made a surprise announcement Friday that she is resigning from office at the end of the month without explaining why she plans to step down, raising speculation that she would focus on a run for the White House in the 2012 race.
The former Republican vice presidential candidate hastily called a news conference Friday morning at her home in suburban Wasilla, giving such short notice that only a few reporters actually made it to the announcement. State troopers blocked late-arriving media outside her home, and her spokesman, Dave Murrow, finally emerged to confirm that Palin will step down July 26. He refused to give details about the governor's future plans.

She changed the game and made new rules. Now Democrats are running around like their hair is on fire. :free-happy-smileys- screaming ..."What do we do now? what do we do now?" And the White House teleprompter is silent..not a peep to tell the trolls and plebs what to do..
Go gettem Sarah.. I approve.

I have my doubts about whether this is a good move for her, or the repubs, but I also have doubts that there is any story here other than planning for a run in 2012.

I had just read the Vanity Fair piece on Palin (long, but interesting); found it surprising that she dropped that bomb yesterday in light of the week's controversy over her.
Doubt Bob is right about indictment, but would not be surprised if there is more news to come out of Alaska before its over.
Can't see how a 1/2 term governor from the most remote state in the Union can claim the experience for a national run in 3 years. Just don't see how it helps her, no matter how her handlers tries to spin it. Ironically she describes her desire to be able to effect change in energy independence and national security; only one that she has any experience. I'd expect her to really spend more time riling up the religious right on social issues. We'll see.

EVERYONE has decent qualities. To me, she is good in a more local sense. Nationally, I would scared to death of having her run the country.

There is more than enough news out of Alaska that suggests she isn't quite so good even in a local sense. I think her pit-bull mentality of politics drives people away.
But I agree about the national perspective. Scary.

Its possible.. Over their house, its the one story The Voice has been pounding over at the Huff Po about whether the Sprots Complex contractors helped them build it.. I see it as another frivolity in the lefts attempt to marginalize her. They are that scared of her that they will do and say anything they can dream up, even attack her family and conjure up a bogus indictment, to make certain she is damaged by a cloud over her.
If its true that a indictment is coming down then she just changed the game and the rules by resigning as governor. She made a end run around the flaks and they never saw it coming. THere is only one front to defend now rather than her seat as a sitting governor too. Big game changer. Brilliant.
Where is SKY the lawyer for advice on the legal ramifications when you need him?? Probably out looking for wisdom food like peanut brittle and birch beer ?? :)

Its a good possibility.. With Ensign and Colman out and the vindication of Stevens of Alaska, its a good possibility the Alaskans are remorseful about not standing behind Stevens and would put her in a seat.

Its logical. She has no chance at all at winning the white house in 2012. She has a good chance at winning a senate seat and running in 2016 for president.

Democrat Mike Begich's seat is up until 2014.
Lisa Murkowski's seat is up next year, but she is a Republican. Would Palin want to challenge a sitting Senator in her own party? That would destroy any party support she would have in the future.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/07/06/sarah.palin.fbi/index.html
(CNN) -- The FBI, in a rare response to rampant rumors on the Internet, said it is not investigating Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on public corruption charges.
There is no political gain in resigning, it actually hurts her in running for Senate next year or President in 3, so perhaps it actually is being done for personal reasons.
My guess is that she realized that raising a Down Syndrome baby requires a lot of attention, and being a Governor doesn't allow for that.

Quitting in the middle of her term makes no sense if she want's to continue on in politics. If her ultimate ambition is to run for POTUS, why not just finish out your term and add to your resume? Lack of experience is what did her in during her VP run last year. Surely this move can't help.
I'm with others in thinking that something just doesn't add up. My guess is that we'll find out the real meaning behind all of this soon enough...

I don't think there's anything to it. I bet she's planning a Senate run. Possibly.. But maybe she just wants to get her family out of the spot light and make some money to pay off her $500,000 LAWYER bills with out having to answer a another barrage of bogus and frivolous ethics questions for things like book deals and speeches..That's a lot of money for a family like that.
That last attack by Letterman on her kids really set her back on her heels... I know I would have probably ripped Letterman's lower jaw off with one punch.. But that's me.. Then the Vanity Fair thing and she said screw it.. "I can take it but what am I allowing my family to have to endure because of peoples irrational hatred of me"? She figure hopefully, If she quits then all they can do is pick on her and leave her family alone..

1st of all....she is partically to blame for anything said publicly about her family because she and republican bent over backwards to make sure EVERYONE saw her family. Out of natural media curiosity, the digged deaper into the family. Then of course, they run on family values....the older teenage daughter is pregnant and they litterally try to force the kid to marry the daughter....then when it does not work out, then almost force the kid into witness relocation to keep his mouth shut.
Celebrities/well known politicians/professional athletes ALL wanna use the media to push whatever they are selling....they will use family, friends and whatever else possible. THEN, the moment the media shows too much of what they already put out there....they get their panties all twisted in a knot.
...if you DO NOT want your family in the limelight....do not bring them out for all to see.....

OH boy....here we go...The guy that accuses EVERYONE of "knee jerk" reactions....yet he is ALWAYS the 1st one to do it. You have NO CLUE about media....none. I worked in it for 7 years.....and I tell you a little something. IF you give the media a small crack to peek in....they will stick their whole body in it. IF you give them anything they can investigate....they will. You run on family values...and parade your un-wed, pregnant teen all over the place...guess what sparky...the media will jump all over it. Oh boy, I cannot believe I am gonna use Dick Chaney as an example....but EVERYONE knows about good ole Dick's lesbian daughter....but did he show her off, talk about her or made ANY comments about her while in office.....??!! DID HE??!! NOPE. Everything and anything about whatever she said or did, the ole 'it's a private matter' line would come out and you know what....it worked because they pretty much left her alone. But Sarah Palin MADE SURE her pregnant 17 year old daughter was ALWAYS front and center....with her almost-forced-to-marry-at-shotgun-boyfriend....and you know what, you are inviting danger to your family. Please don't play innocent with this crap because IF she would have been a liberal, you would have been ALL OVER HER about not teaching her teenagers morals....so spare me THAT BS.
You are putting the WHOLE media at fault of this ONE cartoon from this ONE moron??!! Man, talk about MAJOR knee jerk reaction.....What this guy/magazine did was reprehensible and disgusting...but they represent less than .000001% of the media.
So please spare us the 'poor Mary Magdalene' speech about Sarah Palin...she and her handlers knew EXACTLY what they were doing and it was too much to handle and her family paid for her being ambitious.
...it's a dog eat dog world in the lower 48....she ain't and wasn't in little town Alaska anymore....:pleur:

Knee jerk reaction? Vile Sexual inferences, references, innuendo, mockery, of a candidate and their family is now legitimate news investigation and reporting?? Only on the left..
Because I criticize a industry from network TV, print news, news magazines to cyber news and blogger sphere viscously and obviously and intentionally sets out to destroy a person and their family because she had the audacity to be open and honest, not hiding anything like a on going affair or perverse deviant sexual preferences. A industry that I expect is supposed to report the just facts and truth and not make up things if they can't find something.. This is knee jerk??
I'm still waiting for that nosy media to walk down that ravine (speaking of cracks) of Obama's real life story. Maybe a little Tony Resko that Hillery talked about. Maybe his "arrangement" with his book deal benefactor Jane Dystel. I would like to know more from the Chicago press on how he got to be State Senator.
And Cheney's daughter was brought up by that slime ball John Edwards (speaking of being protected by the press, where was the body in the crack peek in there?) and some media but she was too politically correct for the media to go after. She is Liberal and Gay. Just as the media darling McCains ditsy daughter, who was on the campaign trail full time, is elevated to heroin statues because of her "progressive" views.

Even Fox News has started to turn on Sarah Palin. In the midst of a segment about the Alaska Governor's battle against "liberal" attacks, Liz Trotta went off-message (http://www.foxnews.com/bios/talent/li-trotta/).
Frankly, "the woman is inarticulate, undereducated," Trotta said, arguing that for once liberal criticism was "well-deserved."
"I think all the liberal stylists ... really have a case. She just begs for adjectives like flaky and wacky." When pressed, she added, "We're talking about somebody who, right from the get-go, has been a flashy person who gets into a lot of trouble and really has no credentials for any job."
