I don't own a gun, but I am all for people to have the right to have guns.
IMHO everyone that buys a gun, pistol or rifle, should have a background check every time they buy a gun for each gun. I'm all for a waiting period, what's the harm with waiting, you haven't done anything wrong, then there should be no problem.
Also IMO that people shouldn't have or own automatic weapons, there is no need for it, buy the time you're done shooting the game, there wont be anything left.

Cy I agree with you on all of your points except the last one. I see no reason to limit automatic weapons. Many people use them for sport shooting or target practice. I simply do not see the difference in owning one of these or a semi automatic rifle.

IMO only the military and police should have them, I don't think there is any need for them in the private sector.
Next everyone will have a Laws rocket on their gun rack, just not needed.
You can shoot/kill the same thing with a semi-automatic as a automatic.

Cy, that last sentance is why I am for them. They serve the same purpose. So why allow one, and not the other. Once it gets past that though (rockets) that is a difference story. I see no reason for a private citizen to have explosives. On a small private scale, that is the equivilant of a WMD.

I don't know, but when I think of automatic weapons, I think of gang bangers shooting everyone down.
I know criminals will get them anyway, but if we made them harder to get, maybe less killing will happen.

See Tom This is where your going wrong.. No where in the Constitution does it say "the right to bear arms" for hunting or target shooting. That is a natural right of all living creatures (to provide food and perfect that ability) in its self given us by our Creator for Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness . (The "creator" in my case being Nature or life itself.)
I want guns like those that my potential enemy might have to protect mine and myself.. Be it a criminal who invades my property with a Uzi or a AK 47 to a invading army to the rogue government that would take away my freedoms. The intent as specifically spelled out in the Second Amendment.

Even this I have a little problem with. A comedian I heard (I can not remember who) made a funny, but accurate point. After those first couple of bullets hit you, it really does not matter if there are 50 more coming behind it.
I dont know, I can understand (but not agree) with someone against auto weapons. I never have been able to understand total gun control though. At least we are in agreement on that:thumbup:

Yes you have that right, and I will protect that right if I can. I just think automatic weapons cause more harm than good.
I use to have a 20 gauge shotgun pump, that would do some harm if need be.
Plus I use to have a 30/30 and 300 savage, I'm all for people's rights to guns, I just think only the military should have a weapon that can kill 100 people within a few seconds.

Could that not also be true with a semi auto? The only difference I see is how many times the trigger is pulled. Many semi autos you can shoot pretty fast. I have a 30-06 with a clip that is semi. Just as quick as I can pull the trigger.

That's true. Maybe after shooting automatic weapons and semi automatic weapons in the military, I just have different thoughts.
Like I said I'm all for gun rights, hence the word "gun", not explosives.

Who said that automatic rifles are for shooting game? If this country breaks into civil war or a revolution happens, me and my automatic weapons will be ready!
