Yeah, but what about personal privacy?

Yeah, but what about personal privacy?

Satellite imagery is the least of our privacy worries. Just look at all the information the Census Bureau and IRS demand, and they have no problem reminding us that we must comply or the friendly, armed people in uniform will come a-calling. Those two examples just scratch the surface. Government is the real enemy of privacy and satellite info or not, they will get the information desired, and they don't care if your privacy is invaded or not. I don't believe for a second that this is about personal privacy.

It may not be, but it is no less intrusive, and possibly more so. If one is against the examples you gave, how can they be in an uproar over the original topic?

I don't see how it can be more intrusive than, say, the cameras that we see dang near everywhere now. All I'm saying is that the government doesn't need spy satellites to to invade our privacy. There are already a number of ways to do so. Letting the sats continue do what they have been doing all along will likely not invade our privacy any more than it is already invaded. That's what raises red flags for me. What's the real reason for stopping the program? Not that government would lie or anything...

So what do you have to say to this comment FROM the WSJ article:

"In our view, the NAO is not an issue of urgency," Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton, wrote to Ms. Napolitano on June 21.

Writing on behalf of the Major Cities Chiefs Association, Chief Bratton said that were the program to go forward, the police chiefs would be concerned about privacy protections and whether using military satellites for domestic purposes would violate the Posse Comitatus law, which bars the use of the military for law enforcement in the U.S.

....you gonna tell him to shut up because they don't know what they are talking about? I mean WOW, the concept of LOCAL government doing their jobs is so....so....old fashion...

I find it funny how those on the right want LESS government....but they want EVERY SINGLE "tool" that could be used for spy on terrorist or law abidding citizen....possible to use....

I agree, repeal the Patriot Act, NOW!

I think a lot of folks on the 'right' are waking up to the civil liberty infringements of the Bush admin....if not, they will become a microcosm of the Repub party.

I can already see my car sitting in the driveway on google. I for one want to know when a terrorist is approaching the water treatment plant or nuke plant.

Terrorist yes. Common citizen? I do not care to know what they are doing. How we go about that while protecting your right to privacy is the tricky part.

As someone who works for the water company, I can assure you, we have plenty of cameras and security, all without the need for surveillance satellites.

OT: Speaking of Cleveland Water, is it safe to drink again? On Wednesday night there was a local water main break. I was without water for a few hours and the next morning my faucets were spitting out brown water. Maybe since you work for the water company you could shed some light...

Boil advisory should be lifted sometime this morning, I'd guess 10 or 11. We are waiting for bacteria tests to come back, which take 24 hours (and the samples were not taken until the lab opened up yesterday morning). It has been years since we had a positive result after a main break. However, a positive result would extend the advisory. Residual chlorine usually takes care of everything.

Its always good to know you still believe the "ticking time bomb" scenario. By now, if the govt doesn't have every terror cell in America databased and under surveillance, then our intelligence system is a joke. Which of course, it is not. Its time to get out of the this post 9/11 hysteria and move on. It doesn't mean we need to let our guard down again, but the idea that everything is a terrorist target is verging on the diagnosis of a mental disorder.

One more OT post:

The boil advisory included mayfield heights for all areas North of Ridgebury. I'm three houses South of Ridgebury.....are we on an entirely different line?

According to this map, you may be safe. Either way, the boil advisory is off.

BTW, it is pretty evident whether you were effected or not. The lines effected shut off compeltey for a few hours on Wednesday night. All Thursday and even today, whenever we turned on a water line it experienced some sputtering because of the air still in the line. If you haven't noticed any of those abnormalities or brownish water, you were probably never affected in the first place.

Oh yeah...my water was fine. I was drinking it all day yesterday. I was just asking a question out of curioisity...why was mine ok, when people 200 yards away from me had to boil.

For you, yes. Ridgebury is the divide line of our second high district and out third high Cedar district. Actually, all the homes on Ridgebury including the north side are on the 3rd high system, but we try to keep boundaries simple so as not to confuse. It is fed by 2 large trunk mains, one of which is the one that broke. But so long as the other one is OK, we're fine.

However, boil advisories are based on areas where we lost pressure. We are not concerned about bacteria getting in through the break, but about junk infiltrating unpressurized mains. Normally, so long as pressure is exerted out, noting can get back in. So even if you were on the same system, you would have been fine if we didn't issue an advisory.

Because you get your water from a different main that wasn't a part of the break on Trebisky.

:thumbup: Thank you. I know as much about how my water comes out of the tap as I do rocket science.
