California parents beware: Those little tax deductions running around the house are now worth less (in a strictly financial sense, of course).

To help balance its budget, California has reduced the state tax credit for dependents.

I am. :) Time to stop rewarding personal decisions with the tax code. If kids are too expensive without tax credits, don't have them.

Wow, so there is another reasonably-minded person on this board. Everyone else seems to think they are doing me a favor by having kids, and thus deserve a tax-sponsored kickback.

Well, not to get to graphic, but we did.;)

Anyway, I am jealous of the free time, but I would not trade it now of course.

I love my kids...and ANYONE who would consider their kids a tax break or anyone who think people are producing for that reason is ....an idiot....cause $1000 or $500 or whatever it is....is not worth the effort...

...no the IRS punishing for getting married....THAT should be a crime...!

If it is not a reason for having kids (as, I agree, it shouldn't be), you shouldn't complain when you don't get it.

As for the marriage penalty, it varies couple to couple. More couples pay LESS taxes filing married than they would as singles. By the same logic, then, as people claim there is a marriage penalty, there is a singles penalty.
