I just don't get it. Organizations like the NAACP hurt the people they are trying to help more than help them.

In 2004, she wanted to buy the house next door for her son to live in. She said the bank promised her a low fixed rate for a $40,000 loan, but at the closing, when reading the fine print, she noticed that the rate was actually 11 percent.
"I was blown away," said Weaver, an NAACP member. "I didn't have any choice (but to sign) ... it made me feel violated."
This is the part I do not understand.
She said she had no choice....NO CHOICE but to sign. Am I missing something? Anyone here ever been forced to sign a loan?

According to the NAACP, everything is racially motivated...so who's the racist?

???
If the allegations contained in the complaint are true (and this remains to be seen), then the lawsuit would be beneficial to the NAACP's constituents. I don't understand the logic of your statement.

The NAACP and other groups which claim to help people often serve only the purpose of garnering more money for their organization. They should focus on why so many blacks are in prison, why so many families have no father, and the drug usage rate among them.
They are like unions....take the dues and give very very marginal return to their members.

I'm glad you added the "and other groups" part because the same could be said for churches and various charities.
The NAACP does focus its efforts on reducing prisoner recidivism, btw:

But back to the topic at hand: I'm sure this type of lawsuit is exactly the reason why many members of the NAACP decided to pay dues.

IMHO, the NAACP has done far more harm far its memebers than they have good. They seem to jump on situations that do not require it, and make more out of it than should be.
Of course this is just my opinion.

I don't know if I see it that way....can you think of any specific instances where the NAACP took action which resulted in harm to its members?

Actual harm to its members? Maybe not. However they have done alot to harm the perception of their members, one reason is because of lawsuits like this. I guess I should have stated it differently.
Edit: I am using the story as it was presented as basis for this. I have NO idea if individual banks are racist. The fact that the woman quoted said she had no choice but to sign when she noticed the intrest rate was different than what she thought she was told tells me alot. If they can not find a better example to use than that....

I got something totally different out of the story....I glazed over the individual lady's statement and basically dismissed her as being financially unsavy...
The meat of the article, in my opinion, were the allegations made by the NAACP: blacks & whites with identical incomes and credit scores were systemically offered different loans. If these allegations are true, this lawsuit does not harm my perception of NAACP members.
I can't really think of anything the NAACP has done that has been damaging to the perception of its members. When I hear NAACP, I think of all the positive activism during the civil rights movement. Rev. Al, on the other hand...thats a different story.
