Health-care overhaul legislation being drafted by House Democrats will include $600 billion in tax increases and $400 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid, Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel said.

But with $400B in cuts elsewhere, this only amounts to $200B net, it would seem to me.

No, it is $600 billion in increases AND $400 billion in cuts to medicare and medicaid. (which I clarified under, sorry)
If this passes, the taxes increase considerably. Even then, I doubt it can be fully paid for.
Edit: My mistake, I see what you meant. I am going under the assumption that the cuts from medicair and medicaid go towards the overall health plan as well. You may be correct.
In any case, it is still a substantial increase

It would interesting to know what exactly $4B in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid means...

I am wondering where the tax increases come from....
Then we have that part about companies being required to offer coverage or pay a penalty again...
Scary piece of work if you ask me

Asked whether the cost of a health-care overhaul would be more than $1 trillion, Rangel said, “the answer is yes.”
HD, this is what makes me think that the "cuts" are more than likely a money redistribution more than actual cuts. Make sense? Sorry I was not clear before

Obama has 3 options to pay for it:
1) He can raise taxes, which will trigger a deeper recession;
2) He can print money, which will trigger huge inflation;
3) He can pay more interest to borrow money, which will send the economy diving down again.

Lose/lose.
A bad time, econimically, to be trying to send this through.

Exactly, they will pass it so they can claim they fixed health care in America, but will it ever get implemented? who knows...

I see. Still needs some clarification. It still isn't very clear.

That people once covered under Medicare and Medicaid will be covered under the new system. At least, that's what it seems to me.

That is the lie he is using to ram it through. We have the best health care in the world that is why so many come here for treatment. Last time I checked great products are expensive. Thats the way the world works.

Both are companies, the city here is a corporation. Both negotiated a deal just like every other company does. BTW the city has cut benefits. You are so sadly ignorant.
Care to respond and make yourself look even more ridiculous? I work hard for everything I have. I work hard to keep my job and I work hard to have health care. I am proud to live in the greatest country on this planet, a country that has the BEST health care in the world if you are willing to work for it. If you want to improve healthcare and everything else in this country then stop giving benefits away to illegals. Round them all up and send them home. Every system we have will then improve 1000%.

Our healthcare system is not broke. Its not perfect but its not broke. It does not need a major overhaul. It needs some tweaks.
What this country needs is for the bottom 50% of the nation to get off their ass and join the rest of us in supporting this nations growth and success.

Noooo, that would not happen....
I think people tend to overlook the term ILLEGAL!
Leave, come here legally, and I have NO problem with them being here.
Why should you or I or anyone else have to support someone breaking the law though?

I find it curious that Bob wants this Obama government run healthcare. It will ultimately be a socialist system where they sit there and figure up your worth as a human being and decide what procedures you "qualify" for based on who you are. And the last time I checked Ole Bob was a printer repair man.

I know, and why would anyone be for that? Illegally?
For a few workers? Are we that lazy? Do we not see how many people are out of work?
It is NOT a lack of workers that we have (it never has been)
